Dongcheng District in the first half of 2011 sees satisfactory results in tourism development

  Under the leadership of district committee and district government, and guided by the Outline of the Twelfth Five-Year Plan for National Economic and Social Development in Dongcheng District and the Tourism Development Planning of Dongcheng District in the Twelfth Five-year Plan Period, Dongcheng District Tourism Bureau takes “an international and modern new Dongcheng District" as its goal, keeps “the capital's cultural center, the world's urban window” as its overall positioning, and therefore after continuous development and innovation has got gratifying achievements in the development of tourism in the first half of 2011.

  According to the data released by Beijing Tourism Development Committee, the number of tourists received by Dongcheng District reached 34.27 million in the first half of the year, up 21.4% year on year and ranking the first in the sixteen districts and counties of Beijing; the revenue from tourism reached 22.76 billion RMB, up 23.5% and ranking only second to Chaoyang District. Both tourism number and revenue have increased by more than 20%, exceeding the average growth rate of the city 11.2% and 15.8% respectively. Dongcheng tourism has been a strong driving force in Beijing tourism development.

  In the first half of this year, due to the negative influence of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, the Tourism Bureau of Dongcheng District promoted the tourism work in pragmatic and innovative manner: first, actively carrying out promotional activities of foreign tourism, for example, advertise and promote the tourism resource of Dongcheng District at the tourism trade fairs held in Japan, Germany and France; second, enhance the brand image and reputation of Dongcheng District through holding a series of tourism festival activities such as “2011 International Tourism Festival of Imperial City Culture”; third, strengthen the supervision of the tourism market to refine the tourism market environment and improve the quality of tourism services.
