The Activity of “The Blind Reading” Getting Better

Eight blind people from Hepingli neighborhood participated in “The 9th the Blind Reading of Dongcheng District in the year of 2013” held in the blind reading room of district library in the afternoon of July 24th. In the blind reading room, with advanced facilities, beautiful environment, neatness and tidiness, the blind people appreciated the poetry read by the “reading machine” and realized their dream of surfing the Internet by using “Sunshine pronunciation software”, which made them rather delighted.
Disabled Persons Federation of Dongcheng District originated “Rainbow Dongcheng” this year, a project that the disabled are assisted through culture. Together with district library, the Federation launched “the blind reading”, which is given warm welcome by the blind. At present, there have been more than 80 blind people organized and accompanied by the professional committee member of the neighborhood, leaving home for the library to enjoy the pleasure and happiness of reading and communication.
After the half-year practice and the communication with the blind who have participated the project, the Disabled Persons Federation and the library of the district is going to provide further service to “the blind reading” in three ways to meet the requirements of the blind: as for their inconvenience in moving, the Federation will arrange volunteers to pick up and deliver them; as for no acquaintance of Braille of the old, the library will enrich the content of “listening” book; as for the requirement of extending “the blind reading” to the ordinary life, a project named “giving you a book” enables the blind to read at home. Staff from the Federation and library will figure out a plan as soon as possible to realize the “dream of reading” of more blind people in real sense.
