Residents in Dongsi Subdistrict Is Honored “The Most Beautiful Family of Beijing”

“The Most Beautiful Family of Beijing” were unveiled recently in Beijing’s Mei Lanfang Theatre. Fifty families were honored “The Most Beautiful Family of Beijing”, including the family of Shi Xiaowu and Du Rongdi who are resident in Lane 2, Dongsi Subdistrict.

Speaking of his secrets to happiness, Shi Xiaowu used three words, “Cherish, tolerate and understand.” In 1970, he met his future wife in Yan’an. Three months later, they were dispatched to the same work area and fell in love with each other. Six years later, they got married and were transferred to areas of Qaidam, Tarim, Nanpo and Liangdang. They live a hard but happy life for decades.

Now, the couple has retired and really treasure the time of being together. This year’s September 1 marked the 39th anniversary of their marriage. On that day, Shi Xiaowu wrote a humorous poem named as “On Marriage”, which reads that: “In taking care of the family you are apt, making me always at ease. But in scenic spots at the five continents, who would ever translate English language for you?” The wife takes over all household duties in daily life, while Shi Xiaowu would always use his English to communicate with local people when the couple is travelling abroad.

“We have been living together for so many years. At first, we couldn’t stand some behaviors of each other. But we gradually learnt to be kind and tolerant.” Shi Xiaowu believes mutual understanding and tolerance make a harmonious family.
