The Choir of the Children's Palace Joins A Cappella Competition

Initiated by the Beijing Federation of Literary and Art Circles and the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture, sponsored by the Beijing Musician's Association and the Beijing Cultural and Art Activities Center, and organized by the China Chorus Association, the 7th Beijing Choral Festival of "Sing for You"- A Cappella Competition were held on June 4, 2017. The a cappella group of the Choir of the Children's Palace in Dongcheng District took part in the first a cappella competition in China.

A cappella means multiple choruses, in which the musical instrument accompaniment is performed by human voice. The 18 groups that participated in the competition were from all over the country, including university student groups from Central Conservatory of Music, Communication University of China, University of Science & Technology Beijing and University of International Relations and some adult groups as well. The members of the a cappella group of the Choir of the Children's Palace in Dongcheng District are the youngest, with the average age of only 15 years old, and the establishing time of the group is also the shortest, just for half year.

Though the group is formed by middle school students, its members were unafraid of the strong opponents and masters. They challenged themselves and tried out new forms of music. The group overcame all the difficulties in the way and marched forward courageously when they were on the stage of the a cappella competition for the first time. They surpassed several university and adult groups and finally won the Excellence Award.
