The Youth Feel the Old Beijing Culture Together

On August 9, organized by Youth League Committee of Dongcheng District and Youth Federation of Dongcheng District, the welcoming ceremony of the 2017 teenager exchange event between Beijing and Hong Kong on the theme of "the youth help to realize Chinese dreams, Beijing and Hong Kong embark on national rejuvenation" was held at the conference room on the second floor of the Poly Plaza. In the next five days, 138 teenagers from Beijing and Hong Kong will understand and experience the history and culture of old Beijing through many activities.

It is said the teenagers who participated in the event include 69 middle school students from Hong Kong and 69 young people of Dongcheng District from the Youth League Committee of Dongcheng District, 17 sub-districts and community youth clubs.

The welcoming ceremony was kicked off with a short publicity film introducing Beijing which features the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven, the Great Wall, Beijing duck, hutong and courtyards, intangible culture… Many young people from Hong Kong who came to Beijing for the first time got the preliminary understanding of the historical and cultural characters of the capital by watching the publicity film.

Later on, representatives of teenagers from Hong Kong made speeches, expressing warm expectations for the next five days' activities. "Such activities as watching the flag raising ceremony at the Tiananmen Square, visiting the National Museum to learn about Chinese history and culture, going to the Confucian Temple and the Imperial College to feel the ancient Chinese culture… are what I've been looking forward to", said Chiu Sin-cheong, a middle school student from CNEC Christian College in Hong Kong. Like most of the students in the exchange group, this was the first time he came to Beijing. He told the reporter excitedly that the opportunity for this exchange between Beijing and Hong Kong was very rare. He hoped that he will not only experience the traditional culture of old Beijing, but make deep friendship with teenagers in the exchange group through the event.

After the welcoming ceremony, the young people from Beijing and Hong Kong also carried out cultural exchange activities to paint Peking Opera masks and make folding fans.

The person in charge of the CCYL Committee of Dongcheng District said that the teenager exchange event of "the youth help to realize Chinese dreams, Beijing and Hong Kong embark on national rejuvenation" has been held for three consecutive years. On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to China, the event will organize the exchange group to visit the Forbidden City, the Great Hall of the People, the National Museum, the Tiananmen Square and the Shijia Hutong Museum, so as to further enhance the understanding of the traditional Chinese culture by Hong Kong teenagers, deepen exchanges and interaction and establish friendship between the young people from Beijing and Hong Kong.
