Old Care Catering Service Station Opens

Recently, Yongwai Sub-district has renovated the original rental houses to become an old care catering service station which has had its soft opening. Difficulties that have plagued the empty nest elderly to have meals have been solved.

"In order to implement the policies and requirements related to people's livelihood based on the government's work report, we will constantly mobilize social resources to solve the problem of the empty nest elderly to have meals, make them feel that there are someone out there caring and supporting them. We want to create a convenient and joyous environment for the elderly where they can enjoy their elderly life", said Zhao Yikai, Director of Yongwai Sub-district Office, "the sub-district has made a list of alone-living elderly in 20 communities. We have also made an agreement with the original rental public canteen owner--Beijing Dejulong Canteen, and changed its name to Old Care Catering Service Station which provides professional catering services and food delivery services to the elderly".

Currently, senior citizens over 60 years old in Yongwai Sub-district can take their ID cards and have meals in the Old Care Catering Service Station, or they can enjoy free food delivery services within 2 km radius. The price is fair: RMB 12 for one meat dish, one vegetable dish and one soup; RMB 15 for one meat dish, two vegetable dishes and one soup; and RMB 18 for two meat dishes, one vegetable dish and one soup. The various kinds of nutritious meals take the softness of the food into account and have a healthy combination of both meat and vegetable dishes.

The 74-year-old Wu Fengzhen said, "in my neighborhood, there are lots of senior residents whose sons and daughters do not live with them. Especially for those who can not walk and move as they wish, they usually just take the easy-made noodles at noon, since it's hard for them to go to the market to buy meat and vegetable, not to mention having balanced and tasteful meals. Look at this! The service station is clean and tidy. We don't need to worry about the sanitary conditions and we can take different dishes since the menu is updated each week. More importantly, we can sit  and chat together while having our meals. You don't know how happy I am".
